2011 Lung Cancer Awareness Month

Fundraiser and Campaign to Benefit St. Vincent Foundation’s Women of Hope

Pearl Bistro's owner, Susan Eichholtz, opened the restaurant in honor of her mother who succumbed to lung cancer Spring 2008.  She chose the name to symbolize the pearl-color lung cancer awareness ribbon.

While many regard lung cancer as a smoker's disease, over 20% of lung cancer patients have never smoked at all, including Susan's mother. Regardless of its cause, the illness greatly affects women, men and countless families who cope with the disease first-hand. More people die of lung cancer than colon, breast and prostate cancer combined. Despite its prevalence and severity, lung cancer in women still receives less attention, and consequently less private funding than other forms of cancer, including breast. In her own words, Susan hopes to "... bring awareness to early detection of lung cancer and to help remove the smoker stigma associated with it."

Pearl Bistro has partnered with St. Vincent Foundation’s Women of Hope program, which raises funds, hope and awareness to support cancer patients and families through survivor initiatives and programs.
